Experienced Leadership for Whatcom County

A Decade of Public Service
I am running for re-election to Whatcom County Council District 1 because I want to see government that works for all people, focusing on the solutions needed for today and for generations to come. As an experienced public servant who has worked at the local, state, and federal levels of government, my multidisciplinary approach and balanced perspective helps bring people together to find common ground and solve complex problems. I understand how the system works and my experience will make me an effective leader, policymaker, and community advocate.

Policy solutions are needed to address our community's most pressing issues:
We must support our local workforce and businesses as they are the backbone of our local community and economy. Too many people live paycheck to paycheck. The County must help foster a vibrant economy that supports living wage jobs so people can afford to live, learn, work, and play here in Whatcom County.
To combat climate change, we must address climate resiliency in our built and natural environments. I support Whatcom County's role in facilitating sustainable development, investing in renewable energy and alternative transportation and infrastructure, mitigating flood risk, conserving structurally complex forests while balancing a vibrant timber economy, and protecting Lake Whatcom (our drinking water source).
I support continued investments in public health and community services including affordable housing, shelter and homeless services, food security, access to medical, behavioral, and dental health, treatment for substance use disorders, and early learning and child care (Healthy Children's Fund).
Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure. Since voters approved the public safety tax in 2023, Whatcom County has been working hard to implement the Justice Project. Over the next ten years, we must build a new humane and trauma informed jail and behavioral care center, and invest in services and criminal legal system reforms that encourage incarceration prevention and reduction.
